DirectPlay service providers

Does anyone have any documentation regarding the service providers used with (pre-DX8) DirectPlay? I've searched through the docs included with DX1/2/3/6/7 but all I've managed to find is this excerpt from the DX3 docs:

[QUOTE][/size][size="2"]Some of the new features of DirectPlay 3 are not directly related to your application, including the following:

Service Provider development kit that includes documentation and sample code for creating your own service provider.[/size][size="2"][/QUOTE]

Despite this quote, I've not managed to find any reference to such a development kit anywhere in the SDKs or on the internet.

That's because DirectPlay was phased out some time ago. If you're after a networking backend for a game project, [url="http://www.jenkinssoftware.com/"]RakNet[/url] comes recommended.

I'm working on an IPX emulation thing ([URL=http://www.solemnwarning.net/ipxwrapper/]IPXWrapper[/URL]) and I want to write an IPX service provider since the standard winsock one had its IPX support removed in Vista/7 when the protocol was removed.

are the only docs I can find.

the dplay Service Provider development kit is mentioned in some patent application
but I'm guessing it was never available on the net considering this thread:

I'm wondering if Wine has a working dplay IPX implementation?
