Supporting the LightWave Object Format

I wrote an OBJ loader for my game projects since it appears to be a good format for static geometry. When it came time to develop normal mapping, I found that the OBJ's material library specs do not support a normal mapping channel! I looked at other formats and came across the .lwo format when looking at the weapon models from DOOM 3. I did some research, and found out that the .lwo format is LightWave's proprietary model format, so I would guess that the format changes with every new release of LightWave like 3DS Max's .max format.

Are there any good .lwo importers and exporters out there for 3DS Max or Blender? Also, has anyone found any good articles explaining it's format for that?
