[Research] XBox development

Recommended Posts

Just a question for my research;

aside from using XNA for developing Indie games on XBOX and releasing it to XNA Indie market place,
is there a different platform/framework/SDK used for releasing commercial retail games in XBOX?
is developing an Indie game for xbox using XNA has difference compare to releasing a commercial retail games (in DVD)?

in XBox marketplace there is Xbox Live Arcade and Xbox Live Arcade therefore i assume that there is a difference between the two.

If so, then how to get the framework/SDK to be used for commercial games?

If you guys have URLs with regards to this, please give me..

thanks

1. Yes.
2. There is no difference between XBLA and XBLA.
3. Have extensive game industry experience and form a development company. Then get a Development License from Microsoft/Xbox.

You wrote Xbox Live Arcade twice, xD

I guess you meant Indie games and Arcade. Well, arcade are more professional oriented, and of course different licences are required. In arcade I'm pretty sure you get more money from your games, you have access to achievements, etc. (This doesn't mean there are not indie games in XBLA, like Limbo or Braid).

Indie is for more beginners game makers, you get a smaller percentage, you can do it with XNA/C# and the license is cheaper, I think it's 99US$ a year.

For the indie making, check out the official webpage:
