3D Convex Hull of models

Hey all,

I'm having some trouble visualizing exactly what a 3D convex hull would look like for an animated model.

Say we have an animated model in model pose, it basically has the shape of a cross, with its legs together and arms straight outward and the head being the top of the cross. This model is made up of thousands of vertices. If we were to take the convex hull of this object, would it look like a stretched pentagon or would it be much more tight fitting, almost like a duplicate of the model?

I have a 3d quickhull algorithm and I feel it may be failing for models in which many vertices are nearly coplanar.

Yeah, now that I think about it more, if it fit the model tightly it would be concave, so I guess the quickhull is working correctly. Grrr, I can't find where the bug is in my minOBB algorithm =/
