Parent / Child Event handling

I'm setting up menus using the Nuclex framework and have the following programmed:

mainMenuGameState.cs (parent)(displays 3 buttons on the main screen and calls the dialog box, accesses game state manager)

singlePlayerSetupDialog.cs (child)(displays player options and a Start game button)

Now, when single player dialog is opened, the idea is for the player to make choices and press Start in order to launch the game. I want to make this trigger a function in the parent class. Saw some info about delegates but I don't really understand how to use them (if that's even the answer!) How do I go about doing this?
