Hi ,

I want to create a scene like that :

a simple particle systems will appear like a shower , "water "particles falling on surface
and i want to create `water splash on surface` effect ( as same as what they do on terrain under rain )

For creating that , what I am thinking of is having a bump map for those splashes

and creating alpha-blended diffuse texture to combine with surface texture

I believe with those texture and using them in the pixel shader properly I can create it.

The point I want to ask is that , how can I animate those splashes ? ( It doesn`t need to be very realistic as response to falling `water particles` )

More specifically , I thought of using offset values when fetching normals from that bump map and updating those offsets , but how shall I update

because for eg. just advancing in one direction will look like classical water ripples.

thanks in advance

Make the splashes bigger the more water there is, so for the first seconds wont have splashes but then they start to appear as the surface gets wet. Unless its grass or something liek that of course.
