[DX9] Multiple Surfaces (Optimization)

I'm trying to optimize my current rig as much as possible. I'm getting to a point where I have a lot of surfaces that are renderd to for shadowing, reflection, post process, AA etc... Each surface has a texture associated with it. Is it better to have one surface and switch it to the texture I'm currently rendering or should I have a surface for every texture?
