Age of Mythology map

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know how the Age of Mythology map works? What I am interested in is that you can place your buildings anywhere without being restricted to tiles. Then the terrain around it will flatten itself to match the outline of the building perfectly, it doesn't flatten entire tiles, and units walk around the building itself not just around the tiles that the building occupies.

Any thoughts on this?

From what I remember of using the AoM editor, the ground was just a basic heightmap. And it's trivial to flatten a spot in a heightmap.


Oh ok. Interesting. So how far apart are the points on the heightmap?
