When you're actually typing in the fast reply area or on the add reply page, above the text box there's three toolbars. On the right hand side of the first toolbar there's a question mark icon that has formatting help information.

And if for some reason it completely screws up and posts as html'ish code, yeah... that happens. Also, dont dare edit someone elses post within >code< tags, as it will no doubt cause a giant explosion.
