I had a solid 2 reputation on gamedev.net (lol) and suddenly it drops to -1?

First off, how does this happen? How do you do that? xD

Second of all, I didn't even post anything or bash or whatnot (look at my recent content).

So yeah.... *annoyed*...

There are "Like This" and "Dislike" buttons on each post -- the dislike button only shows up for users with an appreciably high reputation, in order to curtail trolling and griefing on the forum. I'm not sure what the number is, but its likely your rep isn't high enough to see the Dislike button yet.

As for why you were down-voted, you should be able to see which posts were rated down (or, perhaps that's hidden too), but honestly ranting about being down-voted, is usually a recipe for being down-voted further. It is annoying, and I'm relatively certain that the handful of down-votes I've received myself were solely accidental or someone stroking their ego -- never because I'm maliciously spreading misinformation or being a douche. But, its the internet -- people do what people do.

Actually -- your culprit is right here. Looks like you were off-topic. Do be careful about making replies that are relevant to the context of the question, and from the rest of your posting history I would also caution you to exercise restraint in replying in general -- You have a lot of short replies that don't always add a ton to the conversation. As a general rule, if you don't have a handful of sentences that you can string together into a relevant, accurate paragraph, then you should re-evaluate whether your reply is worthwhile. Its great to be stoked about getting involved and all, but there's a lot to be said for knowing when to listen, and when to speak up. Usually the first thing I ask myself before hitting reply is "Do I know enough about this subject to be a useful resource?" followed by "Is the context of the question clear enough for me to give a helpful answer?" If not, I generally don't reply -- there are plenty of domain-experts in this community, so you would do well to develop the reflex to simply refrain from posting, and allow one of those experts to come along.

Now, since you otherwise seem to be a genuine participant, if perhaps a bit off-target, and because that -3 seems a little harsh, I'll do you a Robin-Hood and bump you up a point on that post -- just try to keep in mind what I've said here, and you'll be good in the future. I don't know why you got down voted so much. Maybe it was because you talked about C# and garbage collector that C and C++ don't have. Your answer looks a little out of place.

Not all users can down vote (I can't). I think it has to do with reputation and maybe other things.

Your answer had nothing (at all) to do with the question -- that's about it really. Sometimes it happens randomly, but really, nothing to worry about here - the system sorts itself out eventually and you get back the rep you've lost. Unless, of course, you go around being a major douche ;)

Ah I see thanks. I was a bit worried about why it happend (thought I was in trouble? I dunno. Rough day for me today so I jumped to wild conclusions I guess) but as for the post, I was just trying to point the guy into a way of thinking of the problem/perspective problem using C# as an example (a VERY similar language i might add) I guess. >.< Sorry

and sorry if this post is irrelevant/cause for more down rep. again, rough day.

thanks all for your help!

At the moment I don't believe there's any central location, so only on the posts themselves (via the number in the lower right).
