[java] Java and Java2?

There''s basically a ton of differences in the APIs (Swing VS AWT, support for Java2D, Java3D, etc), but its the same basic language. The name "Java 2" is somewhat confusing, as "Java 2" is really Java 1.2 (or higher).

If you''re going to develop with Java, use a newer version (1.3 or the 1.4 betas). The only reason to use the old Java versions is if you need to create an applet that will run in any old web browser with Java support.
