Simple question. Is there a guide somewhere that shows how you can use concepts of programming for different mechanics found in games?

For instance, say I want to program an inventory system into my game. I assume I would use an array for this(this was in an old programming book I read don't remember which one). How would I go about this though?

I'm planning to code my game which I explained in another post step by step, tackling each mechanic separately. It would be great to have something like that as a reference and I haven't been able to find anything.

Examples of game mechanics that could have programming explanations.

- character placement and movement
- class system
- attributes/stats
- magic system (separate spells by magical school) A sort of list or array

just any mechanic in a game really.

Start small. Write something like Pong first to get a feel of the different interactions between systems in a game. Then, extend on them and start writing a fully fledged rendering system and stuff.
