Not so much of a specific question, but its for something I want to try and implement in the future of a gameserver for anti-hack detection I want to learn how to detect hacks without a client mod and I had the idea of taking snapshots of all players positions and then using some kind of math (Here's where I need help) to discern outliers that are a specified distance from the nearest point on the Z axis.

So to sum up, where exactly should I start looking math wise to begin towards something like this?

I'd start with basic statistics; find the mean of your set of points, compute the standard deviation, and the z-score of any particular point should tell you fairly accurately how "unusual" it is.
