Can anyone link me to a tutorial to make a C++ text based rpg game? I already learned C++ however I would like to make a text based rpg to get a better understanding! PLEASE HELP!!!

I would recommend the C++ Module 1 from the game institute. Simply Google "C++ Module 1" and you will find it. I think its about 5 chapters in when you start working on the text based rpg. They go through setting up a player that can move around a map, encounter monsters, and level up. Then they give you some exercises to expand it.

The text based rpg I'm currently developing was based on the one in the book. I've added a lot to it though and it barely looks the same but the book gave me a hell of a start and is a great foundation to work from.

I'm pretty sure i mentioned this in your other thread, but you can download the complete source of my game to get a better understanding of the underlying mechanics. The best way I have found to learn is to simply go through code and decipher how it works. It sounds difficult but once you grasp the basics and terminology its not that bad.

Reverse engineering is really how we've arrived at the technological age we're in today. Just my two cents, hope it helps.

I have updated, please help me now so I can become better!

no offense, but if you really wanna become better you need to scrap the linear approach to game play out the window.

I would recommend a simple random number generator, making a player class, a monster class, an input function, wait a second...this sounds like deja vu. It all boils down to the same sentence I keep writing. If you want to understand how to make your game better there is no better way than to look at a better game an understand how it works, so then you can apply the same theories and mechanics to your game. This has been done over and over by real AAA game companies.

Halo: Reach's firefight mode was inspired by Gears of War's Horde mode. I could list more examples that one was just on the top of the head.

You really want help? Then help your self by downloading the source to my text based RPG and relish in it, absorb it, and understand it. When you have done this, you will be ready to start developing your own text based RPG. If you have any trouble understanding anything in there feel free to message me.

while (yourhealth > 17){
yourhealth--;
}

There is no need for the loop. Simply set yourhealth=17; or yourhealth -= 3; (since you set yourhealth to 20 beforehand).
