So I am the epitome of a noob at game development. I have started reading up on programming but I feel a little overwhelmed with all the information out there. I would like to be able to start with something basic at least. I'm hoping someone here can point me in the right direction with where to start at least.

There are many languages to choose, But if your confused, scroll up, there's a For beginners FAQ, It completely covers your topic it might help.

And, Always remember this while coding:
"you cant break small sticks when they are bundled, but you can break them easily if they are un-bundled"
This divide and conquer approach is the best way in programming
