GLUT's main loop

Why does GLUT not allow the programmer full control over the main loop? You must predefine the functions for each operation.

I ask because I am finding it very hard to design a class that doesn't just rename all of GLUT's functions.

I know libraries like SDL and SFML allow you the programmer full control over the main loop so I cannot understand why GLUT can't?

Because GLUT is a simple helper framework for making basic GL applications quickly. It probably shouldn't be used for anything too serious.
