Hi everyone!!!

I'd like to ask your opinion about game menus. I'm working on my Reversi (Otello) game, and I decided to make a menu.

What is the best or more common way to do it. Is it better to create menus element by element within the program (hard coded) or maybe make some kind of structure description in a file (xml, ini) and then while initializing the game parse it? I decided to hard code it for Reversi, but for the future it's interesting to know what others do!

This very much depends on the scope of the project.

Clear reasons for taking the dynamic approach are:
  • allowing the user to customize the menu
  • adding support for multiple languages

Thank you!!

Good points, i didn't think of that.

I just thought that using files will be useful for making a menu editor tool for the designers!

I guess it's not that bad to use the static method for the small projects like mine. But what about the big ones?

Also if you go the dynamic route you could reuse it for future projects, and add features to your basic framework as needed. It could be a time saver.
