Beginning Direct X 11 Game Programming Help

Hi guys, I've been working my way through Beginning Direct X 11 Game Programming, and I seem to have hit a wall (possibly two walls). I don't know if any of you are familiar with the book itself, but while working through it, it shows some shader code that is apparently supposed to be used. However it gives no indication of where to actually use it, and it doesn't appear to be in the sample code they provided. Additionally, from the way it is talked about in the book, it seems like it is needed in order to support making a second sprite with a different texture than the first.

Can anyone help a newbie out?
