I haven't done a ton of cross platform C++ in recent years, so I managed to be pretty much ignorant of Qt Creator. I've always been Visual Studio first, port later. In recent times, the most commonly recommended cross platform C++ IDEs tend to be Code::Blocks or Eclipse ( spit, puke ).

Qt Creator doesn't really seem to get all that much love, so it mostly went under my radar. I recently checked it out and DAMN, it is pretty freaking awesome. Fast, streamline, modern, intuitive and capable. It is more or less exactly what I want a C++ IDE to be. Granted, I've really only been using it for a few days, but initially I am extremely impressed, hell, Im tempted to supplant Visual Studio as my primary IDE... a first since basically Visual Studio 6!

Just wondering about the rest of you people working in C++, have you used Qt Creator? If so, what do you think of it? If not, why not?

If you've never heard of it, here is a link. It is free and weighs in at about 1.5 GB download. You really owe it to yourself to check it out.

Qt Creator is great smile.png I develop in Ubuntu Linux mostly, and I was using Eclipse before, but it was quite sluggish. When I checked out Qt Creator I was really impressed with how much faster and more lightweight it was compared to Eclipse (Eclipse takes up 700-1000MB of RAM, while Qt Creator takes only 20-40MB, for me at least. I had to make sure I didn't run Eclipse while I was running a VM otherwise my PC would grind to a halt!). The code completion is also much better.

The debugger isn't as fully featured as Eclipse's one. There also aren't as many options to mess around with but I prefer the simplicity to be honest.

Thumbs up for Qt Creator from me smile.png

QtCreator is fantastic. I use Qt for work so program exclusively in QtCreator 9am to 5pm, plus a bit for side projects as well.

Intellisense is remarkably good and puts VS to shame. The interface is stunningly configurable and it is pretty as hell. It's also the only sensible free option for Qt projects really as the pain of trying to get VS Express to talk nice to the Qt build process without using the QMake plugin is quite severe.

I honestly can't think of a bad thing to say about it.
