I am just curious to know if Blender is right for the absolute beginner or not. I also wanted to add that I was planning to use the engine to make a pong game and other 2d games, since I don't know much about 3D games just yet. I tried to make my game using the Haaf game Engine, but it's not working out at all. The installation process is too tediousness and convoluted. And I feel as though the HGE is unsupported. In terms of background, my first game was a guessing game i made a few weeks back.

Feedback would be nice.

Recommendations for any game engine would be appreciated as well.

What Language your using?
How is your skill level?

If you are an beginner in programming I recommend to start off with the C# Language and XNA Framework. There are alot of Tutorials on the Web which will introduce you to it.

For other Languages:
Java - Slick2D
C++ - SDL or SFML

I know C++ and Java.
In terms, of skill I am a beginner in both. I don't really know how to describe it. As stated before, I made a guessing game, so hopefully that gives you an idea. I am not at that level where I know polymorphism, inheritance, encapsulation.

I have one question though, I read somewhere that a person doesn't really need a full fledged game engine, can SDL fullfill my every need in terms of making 2d games.
