About Depth Buffer testing

forgive me but i am kinda novice in directx (im still using dx 9) and i have NOT tried using it yet,
but when is the right time that disabling the Depth buffer will be used?
Can you give me some situation about this?

Well there are actually a bit more than just "disabling depth" buffer.

You may for example:
- disable depth writes, but perform depth comparison which is useful when doing multipass rendering orrendering transparent/translucent particles
- disable depth test and depth writes, for example when drawing 2d elements to screen you may not care about the depth buffer
