Unless you are intending to develop Code::Blocks itself, it's recommended that you download whatever you need through your distro's native package manager if possible. If you're using Ubuntu or Debian, you're very likely using apt-get and you also may have a GUI program to manage it for you called Synaptic (although using an environment other than Gnome might make it not so). Whatever it is, I very much suggest you get yourself familiar with the package manager. It will save you a magnitude of headaches.

I seem to remember codeblocks is particularly tricky to install unless you are using a distribution that package and resolves the dependencies for you.

Which distribution and desktop are you using?

I am using ubuntu 11.10 and the error message is something about not haveing the g++ in bin

try this at the commandline:
sudo apt-get install build-essential checkinstall

Also, avoid installing software from sourcecode, always use the package manager when possible. (It makes things alot easier)

It seems that ubuntu 11.10 already has codeblocks in its package repositories.

I suggest you try these two commands:

sudo apt-get install build-essential checkinstall

sudo apt-get install codeblocks

In future, copy and paste the actual error message - it might contain important details that could help solve your problem.
