Obsession with Dreaming

[color=#282828][font=helvetica, arial, verdana, tahoma, sans-serif][size=3][left][background=rgb(250, 251, 252)]I have a weird obsession with dreams and I have so many ideas for games or short stories about dreams that I dreamed. I'm making two games now. One is a big project that will be finished later this year. The other is a short art game but, I want to make more games about dreams. Is this theme boring and can a developer make too many games with the same theme? The games are all about dreams or sleep but have different sub-themes. My biggest project is about a Narcoleptic, Insomniac, Socially awkward robot. My other ideas are about False Awakenings and Comas and surreal and lucid dreams. Is this boring or more interesting? Short-ish Art Game Story (short):

A guy has a perfect life but everything slowly starts to get worse and he realizes everything is fake he tries to find out whats happening and when he realizes he sleeping he wakes up from a coma.

That is 'Vanilla Sky' but as a game :D

The theme could be interesting. But it depends on the story and your art . You gave us not enough information about them. Why is everything getting worse in his life? Why is he in a coma? How did he realize that everything is fake? What is the art-style?(examples) and so on.

Even if all you do is make dream-themed games, there are lots of other game developers that make other types of games that can be bought in between the games you produce, so it's not like you're going to saturate the market with your games to the point where even hearing that a game is dream-themed will make the gamers barf. So really it all depends on how interesting the games you will make are going to be.

Is Vanilla Sky a movie? [img]http://public.gamedev.net//public/style_emoticons/default/blink.png[/img] And That's a short description of the game. It's a short art game, I don't need a 20 page document. But, as the player is progressing, the world is more surreal. And the character realizes everything is fake because things are disappearing. When everything disappears he wakes up.
It's a platform game and probably 8-bit. I like 8-bit art games. But, not all games I'm making are 8 bit, I use 3D modeling software. And I draw.

lucid dreams, means out of body experiences? that would be a totally new theme for a game. well, never played one with an OBE, anyway.

How would you make an OBE game? When I said lucid I was thinking the character is dreaming but can't wake up, like sleep paralysis. I "experience" sleep paralysis often.

Tim Schafer's Psychonauts is, in a way, based on dreaming, except that someone else is entering into another mind, without control over that mind, making it a very subconscious, dreamlike, experience...

What would be awesome to see would be a game that is a little more 'Nightmare on Elm Street' based. Where the main character has to embattle daemons in his own mind that maybe enter through an external source... Think of all you could do with the worlds! (and the music!!)

I never played psychonauts. I wanted to but, didn't. I like the idea and I have a similar story.
The main character go to a sleep clinic and the doctor there is crazy and using people for a 'dream machine' he built. The machine uses people's dreams and another person can see what the other people are dreaming. This is dangerous and the protagonist has to escape his mind and the people in the sleep clinic.

I like the Nightmare on Elm Street idea and music is very important in my games.
