I played violin for 6 years in school, but that was a long time ago, and I now have little to no knowledge of music left over from that, (not that there was much to begin with... I was terrible. lol) but I'm wanting to do everything in this project on my own, including the music. Of course, the only problem with that is that I have absolutely no clue where to even start when it comes to writing music. I'm going to be using 8-bit music in this game, and have already downloaded famitracker, and gone through some tutorials on how to use it... so that just leaves the writing part. Is there any way I can learn how to do this(Without paying money.)?

Hey Lemony Lime,

It depends what kind of music you want? and how you want to produce your music(recordings or midi etc)?
Mostly you could just start out experimenting on different sounds and melodies and harmonies. After that you try out some variations of your melodies.
Experiment with different instruments and find out what you like and what you want in your project.
Learning to write music is an ongoing process that takes time and you'll always be learning different things but eventually you find out what starts to sound good and as you practice that you get better.
I'm sorry if this was too broad of an answer

Good Luck and have fun :)
