Hi. My name is Shyam and I'm currently studying Computer science and Mathematics at university but my programming skills are limited. I really want to go into game programming, and possibly become a gameplay programmer for a large company.

However, I don't know where to start. I am a beginner with a basic Java programming skills.

I'm wondering, what I should do to achieve my goal and which programming language I should start to learn to get in to game programming.

I understand C++ and C# is widely used in gaming so would it be best to learn one of these, and what would be the best way of learning, any good books?

Kindest regards

Your assistance will be much appreciated.

Hi There,

Personally, I think that the Unity Engine is a great way to get started. Lots of power yet relatively easy to use and the net is full of great tutorials on how to use it.

Additionally, here's a great free online Stanford course on Programming Methodology.

Lastly, take a look here to learn more about entering the games industry in general.

Good luck!

Best,

Destin
