Camera "Size"
Hello. I was wondering how would changes the size of the camera view. For instance, if my character was shrunk and I wanted the world to look enormous, how is this done?I don't understand how the attributes of a camera(near and far plane etc) play a role in achieving this effect. Thank you.
Near and far plane are less relevant when thinking of their distance, although their size plays a role. In general, when you shrink the viewing volume (meaning mainly width and height) then the stuff remaining in the volume gets scaled up because you render less space within the same amount of pixels on the screen. However, notice that you need to shrink your avatar as well, or else the ratio of the world and the avatar will not change.
Play around with the camera's field of view ( FOV ) Increasing it will show more of the world, decreasing it will make stuff look more enormous. You are basically doing what haegarr said. From my experience, comfortable values are from 35 degrees to 110-120. Tweak around
Ah I see thank you. I am working on a planetary rendering system with chunked LOD, and right no the problem is when I am at the surface of the planet, the planet still doesn't feel "big". It feels like I am just really close to a unit cube. That's is why I posted.
The Perspective shouldn't change at all. Most of the effect comes from eye position. So when you are shrunk your eye position will drop from maybe 1.6m to 10cm above ground.
