Bitmap font with ID3DXFont?

Is there a way to create a font from an image with ID3DXFont? I know it takes a system font and creates a texture with GDI some kind of way. Is it possible to supply it with a texture and the correct params so text can be displayed correctly?

You'd be better off writing your own font class, if you want to do this. "Supply the correct params" is more complex than you might think.

That, and the texture + glyph rectangles are private to the d3dx font so there is no easy way to access them anyway (other than minor hacking).
