Complex Voxel Map Generation on GPU

Hello all. My goal is to create a minecraft style world. I have implemented simplex noise and perlin noise on the GPU in a shader. When I hear people talk about creating complex worlds like Minecraft, they talk about linking together multiple generators(usually with lib noise) to produce the types of maps they want.

My question is this. Is it worth it to try to attempt to do the same noise generation in the GPU, or should I just use libnoise modules? I feel like I would have to almost write an entire library on the GPU to get the types of results that I want. I originally wanted to do all the noise on the GPU because it is much faster.However, I am extremely new to noise generation, and maybe I am mistaken in this assumption.
