How would you create the login system for each player if you sell it on steam?
Because it would be best if you make it so they dont have to login or create any second accounts for your game if they have bought your game on steam and login with their steam account?

How should you make the login/account system while developing the game before it's ready to bring to steams attention?

You use the Steam SDK: https://partner.steamgames.com/

Steamworks FAQ

1. How do I get access to Steamworks?
To get access to the Steamworks SDK, you still need to submit a demo of your game. All of our publicly available information is located here. If you have further questions you can contact steamworks@valvesoftware.com.

2. My game is in early development stages, don't I need to plan for the SDK integration now?
The Steamworks SDK is easy to integrate, so you can wait until your game is further along in the development cycle before worrying about it.

Hmm, So should I just make it for now so you are connected when you launch the client?
Or should I make a basic login feature where they store a username and password?

I think I would need a basic login feature for now because how else should I save players progress when they quit and reconnect to the game.. if i want to save their progress on server side. Edited by glhf

I think you've misunderstood how the Steam client works when users purchase games. You do not need to create such a mechanism if you aren't making something like an MMO or are handling user data yourself.

All of that is taken care of by Valve; all you need to do is create a game that runs.

Sorry, I read the rest of your second post. Ignore what I said. It might be useful to explain your idea in the original post.

Also, do Valve allow Steam accounts to be used in such a way? Edited by BinaryPhysics
