FumeFX for Sprites ?

Hi guys,

I'm trying to make explosion sprites for my particle system and it's just not working out. I don't think I'll be able to make them without a specialized program. I am thinking that I can use the FumeFX plugin for 3ds. Before I invest both time and money I'd like to know if you think this is a good idea. Thanks.

Yeah, using some kind of specialized renderer to pre-render out explosion/flame/smoke sprites is pretty standard.

I'm not experienced with this so I can't comment on FumeFX specifically, but you might also want to look into Blender as it's free and has decent fluid/smoke/gas sim tools built in.
