The Lawless Online is a free, multiplayer-only Role Playing Strategy game based in the violent and unstable towns of the lawless West. The game itself can be seen as a mix between Commandos, Diablo and Company of Heroes.

It's a tactical strategy game that is specifically designed to reward the player for thinking strategically. Fully customisable, level-based Character development, unit inventories and a large array of items, equipment and weapons means it blends the two worlds of Real Time Strategy and Role Playing Games seamlessly.

Players host and join matches of 1 vs 1 to 4 vs 4 and compete with each other for the control of the map through capturing or robbing buildings on the map. Each building has a specific use and it's up to the player to think strategically for which buildings need to be captured, which need to be defend and what ones can be left to fall into enemy persuasion. For instance, houses expand territory and increase population cap but a Saloon offers income $$ and is the building used to 'hire' units to help your character.

Players also receive XP and Skill Points through completing numerous tasks and activities in-game and can then deposit and spend these points on skills and abilities for their Character online via our website.

The game is built in Java and uses pre-rendered 3D sprites. Buildings, units and objects are built using industry standard 3d packages (in our case - Maya) and are then rendered out and composited into in-game assets. This maintains a highly pleasing aesthetic but with the processing power of a 2D engine.

We are all completely focused on making this game free. No microtransactions, no subscription fees and no paid DLC. The only thing that costs money on our project will be the development tools such as the map editor. Although you can pre-order the map editor for a discounted price on our IndieGoGo funding campaign.

There is more information on how our game is made and plays on our developer's blog - http://thelawlessonline.blogspot.com
