Alpha Funding my First Serious Project - Twist

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

My name is Jordan Hart, I am the founder of PurpleHatch Games, and the developer of the video game 'Twist'. 'Twist' is a game where the player controls our protagonist, aptly named Twist, around a plethora of levels, whilst avoiding certain death and other inconveniences. The main story is loosely based around a test facility, which gives the background as to why Twist is jumping around levels.

Twist is a platforming game with the ability to rotate the world 90 degrees, the best way to describe it is a cross between Fez and Bit Trip Runner. The game is currently 2 months in development and is slated for a November 3rd release. By release, there will be 18 levels to claw at your scalp through. The game is a challenging reaction game which requires skill and astute thinking to complete. The levels get progressively harder as you get deeper into the game. New obstacles are also introduced, such as rotating blocks, boost blocks, jump pads, slow motion power ups, the list goes on.

To Do List

The game is just over a month away from initial release and there are still a few things left to do before the game will be ready for release. I'm working on mod support in the form of a level editor, so for any code that needs doing, I can handle that, but where i really need help is in a couple of areas.

I need:

Art Asset Overhaul

Awesome Custom Soundtrack

Promotion and Marketing

Hiring Tester in locality
While I've done every other aspect of the game on my own, I do need my help to make sure everything is in the best state before I release it to the public, this means I have to get all of the visuals looking great, to do this, I'm going to have to work with a graphics designer I know, to polish up the graphics and get the game looking good. The skybox will also need looking at. I have a sound artist lined up to create a 5 - 10 minute soundtrack for the game which will fit the style and theme of 'Twist'. I need a tester in the local area to help me test the game and get it working well, I am considering putting together a local focus group, and will supply them with lunch and any other food or drink they need. Finally, I will need to promote the game as far and wide as I can, I've been looking at a few sites, such as Project Wonderful, which have a really awesome facility for advertising, I'll have to see how everything turns out first though.

The Root of all Evil

Now, I've avoided the topic for as long as i can, but now it's time to talk about that evil topic: money. To do all of these things, I'm going to need some funds, I added the cost all up, and gave myself some breathing space, and I pulled the figure of $600 out of the air. It accounts for everything I'll need, and some more. Now, to make it worthwhile, I am rewarding contributors with a copy of the game for just $2. This is a digital copy and will give you access to all of the alphas, betas, and the final release, on all platforms (Windows, Mac, Android).
