The Curated Books The Art of Game Design: A Book of Lenses, Second Edition, by Jesse Schell Presents 100+ sets of questions, or different lenses, for viewing a game’s design, encompassing diverse fields such as psychology, architecture, music, film, software engineering, theme park design, mathematics, anthropology, and more. Written by one of the world's top game designers, this book describes the deepest and most fundamental principles of game design, demonstrating how tactics used in board, card, and athletic games also work in video games. A Practical Guide to Indie Game Marketing, by Joel Dreskin Marketing is an essential but too frequently overlooked or minimized component of the release plan for indie games. A Practical Guide to Indie Game Marketing provides you with the tools needed to build visibility and sell your indie games. With special focus on those developers with small budgets and limited staff and resources, this book is packed with tangible recommendations and techniques that you can put to use immediately. As a seasoned professional of the indie game arena, author Joel Dreskin gives you insight into practical, real-world experiences of marketing numerous successful games and also provides stories of the failures. View it here. An Architectural Approach to Level Design This is one of the first books to integrate architectural and spatial design theory with the field of level design. The book presents architectural techniques and theories for level designers to use in their own work. It connects architecture and level design in different ways that address the practical elements of how designers construct space and the experiential elements of how and why humans interact with this space. Throughout the text, readers learn skills for spatial layout, evoking emotion through gamespaces, and creating better levels through architectural theory. View it here. My new 3D game

Hi,

Here i ll introduce "Yildiz-online".

Just to give you an idea about Yildiz, it is a massively multiplayer strategy game(MMORTS). It's a combination of classical startegy game(like: Homeword or Starcraft) and management game(like: Ogame).

The game takes place in outer space colonized by humans, a lost expedition found abandonned space bases built by unknown civilization. After some centuries they developped and colonized the entire system.

The game is entirely in 3 dimensions. Goal is to develop and assure the management of its base,or if you wish, to create an army to attack other players to steal their resources.

It can be played on windows and linux platform.

NB: for more information, pictures and videos about the game, I invite you to visit the facebook page: www.facebook.com/yildizonlinegame

Why do I get a warning in Chrome when I click on your link?
This is probably not the site you are looking for!

You attempted to reach yildiz.bitbucket.org, but instead you actually reached a server identifying itself as bitbucket.org. This may be caused by a misconfiguration on the server or by something more serious. An attacker on your network could be trying to get you to visit a fake (and potentially harmful) version of yildiz.bitbucket.org.

You should not proceed, especially if you have never seen this warning before for this site.

If I were you, I wouldn't plagiarize. The image you have set as your default image is taken directly from Area 51 (PC/Xbox game, http://en.wikipedia....2005_video_game)). Just a friendly reminder about copyrights and all that jazz. Your GUI looks good. Edited by Budweiser

Thank you for the reminder, but it is just forum avatar, not used in the game at all(no aliens involved in the game, only human for now).
But indeed ill use my logo instead, at least for consistency and to avoid misunderstanding like that.

Thanks for the GUI, i am developper and it is not always easy to make correct visual assets(The GUI has been redesigned 5 times)

A new video involving an assault on a base will follow soon, thank you for your interest. Edited by Yildiz-online

Can't post on your forums...There just in not a New Post button. Soooo I post here.

EDIT: Guess I need to learn a new language. Apparently 'nouveau' means New Post...or at least 'new' but I already created this post.

Updated game, Game Settings - > DX9. Login, this error. Set to OpenGL. No error but input lag was crazy. Set to DX9 again and didn't get the error. The input lag was better but still there. I'll have to run it through a 560 ti 448 instead of using the onboard that comes with the i3 2100. However the i3 2100 should destroy DX9 content since it plays DX9 FPS like Unreal Tournament 60+ FPS at max settings just fine. There is not graphical lag just input lag. The amount of time before the game realizes I am highlighted over something or registering that I clicked something.

Building creation, Base upgrade, turret building. If you try to do either of these the game finishes but doesn't complete requiring you to log out and back in only to find you have all your resources back and nothing changed. Not sure if you are even able to do anything other than load the game. At this point that is all I can do. Log in and roam around. Interacting with the game in any way ends up with the game getting stuck at the end of the building phase.

And why is there 6 buttons that all do exactly the same thing. 6 Build turret options, 6 build building options and a command center option. Seems excessive to have them even if you plan on later using them. Unless that in itself is a bug.

Just downloaded to test this out. Worked fine as far as login was concerned.

Here's some things though:

When the game starts, I had to wait about 5 minutes before I had resources to build anything. Then when I tried to build a Mining Guild, it started production, but now seems to be frozen on "1 second remaining" and I can't cancel it or select any other slot to build anything.

Restarting the game seems to have fixed this, but I started from 0 resources again, and I don't think my building was still there (can't tell if the slot is occupied).

Rendering works ok (I'm using the OpenGL setting), but some distant planets seem to be experiencing a lot of z-fighting issues - though it's a minor thing for now, since they are.. distant.

The camera control is kind of awkward for me, the view seems kind of limited, and too horizontal - you should make it become far more top down when you zoom out. I think I got lost now actually, not sure how to find my way back to my base. The map/tactical (accessed by M) also doesn't provide an easy way to find my own base (maybe have some 'go to unit' key?) Also when the Map is open, RMB hold still rotates the camera on the main view. Took me a while to figure out that middle click moves the map

Other than that, right now it seems to take a really long time of just sitting and doing nothing while waiting for resources to build up so I can construct something. Maybe it will be more interesting when I get ships to control, but let's see if I can wait long enough for that. Not a bad start for an indie game though.
