weird ratings

I get the feeling some admin needs a psychiatrist. I got downrated for a very old posting around 6 x 3 within the hour. x3 and also multiple within a short time can only be done by an admin?
There have not been ratings for days...probably a Windows freak...or even a republican...[img]http://public.gamedev.net//public/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.png[/img]

The posts are from the 04.11.2012, which isn't very old. 3x a negative rating at 06.11. and 2x at 07.11., from the timestamps I would guess, that it were two different people down voting your content.

And it doesn't need to be an admin/mod to give a -3 rating. Any user with a score sufficiently higher than yours will do.

The topic in question is around a week ago, which isn't "very old" at all -- we get a lot of search traffic to old topics, and it isn't uncommon for people to find a rate content from [i]several years ago[/i].

There is a limit on how many down-votes can be made in a period of time, but it's higher than "around 6".

Almost every user changes your reputation by 3 points -- it's actually 4, but the logging functionality needs to be adjusted to properly reflect this.


The votes in question -- there were 5, not 6 -- are spread across three different posts and sourced from two different users, and appear to be perfectly legitimate votes. For reference, all the same restrictions that apply to members also apply to moderators and staff -- don't be so paranoid. I like it, because it shows me three important things:
1. troll indicator: some people who just want to provoke or start a flame wars are quickly flagged.
2. people who frequently behave bad
3. people who frequently spread missinformation

This community is really very civilized, have a very strong moderator support and some really good and helpful game industry veterans.

So, getting downvoted too often, then start thinking about why this happens and if you want to change it. :)

No you can't, and they're not necessarily "following your profile" -- especially in the case of a topic that's not even two weeks old -- as I said above, we get a lot of search traffic to old topics. It's normal and expected behaviour that people might vote on this content -- if people don't like some content they're welcome to vote it down whenever they find it. Conversely, it's just as likely that [i]good[/i] content might be voted [i]up[/i] when people come across it -- it's not the system's fault if the majority of your content apparently attracts down rather than up votes. *sigh* Things like that last sentence don't help your situation. At all. I know it's a joke, and if it were actually relevant to some kind of discussion, it might even be funny, but GameDev aims to be a "professional" community, where members act maturely and professionally. Jokes are great, but only if they're relevant and take into consideration other people and take care to not unduly offend someone. If you act professionally on these forums, you'll be received much better. This isn't lolcats, 4chan, etc.
