ID3DXSprite Morphing with a Matrix

Surely someone knows how to do this... In the ID3DXSprite interface, there is a member function of HRESULT DrawTransform( LPDIRECT3DTEXTURE8 pSrcTexture, CONST RECT* pSrcRect, CONST D3DXMATRIX* pTransform, D3DCOLOR Color ); what D3DXMATRIX will result in various effects, such as shearing? I continue to fill the matrix will different data, and I end up getting absolutely nothing shown. Any help would be apprectiated. -Vulcan
