First Time Seeing this—New Posts Made but Topic Ends with My Reply

2 posts in this topic

I am talking about this topic: http://www.gamedev.net/topic/638489-what-is-your-employers-policy-on-coming-in-late/

After my post things were normal and it showed as a read topic.

Later it showed as unread, but showed my post as being the last post even when I went into the topic to check.

Then it showed unread again so I shrugged it off, but I noted the time of the last post as being early afternoon, close to 2:00 PM my time.

I just got back from star hunting and it showed as unread again, still with my post being the last post both inside and outside of the topic.  This time the last post’s time was close to 6:00 PM, so I know a new post has been made.

I emptied my cache for the past day and tried again.  Same thing.  Seems my post is eating the following posts.  Sometimes I don’t know my own strength when I post.

This is a known issue, poll votes trigger the "new unread posts" indicator. There are, in fact, no other replies. See this CSI thread.

That said, I did notice some issues as well, the blue star sometimes doesn't disappear after having been bumped by a poll vote, even after opening the thread. It seems to have resolved itself, though, a few days ago the "So, Windows 8" topic was permanently marked unread no matter what I did.

What a relief.  I was afraid I hit the Post button too hard or something.  I pretty-much saw the apocalypse coming as my post first started eating posts in the same topic, then in others, then the whole site, and then the world.
