Bones in Milkshape 3D

Hi Chris, Just wondering... This Milkshape 3d software has support for bones/animation. Are there any plans in the future to support the milkshape format (with bones)? At the moment you only support bones from 3DS Max (I think...) which costs a fair bit. Milkshape is nowhere near as advanced as 3ds Max... but it has some good features.

I can''t comment on this until I look at Milkshape and see what kind of data is available and how well it fits in with PR''s character animation system.

Newer Milkshape3D supports Direct X file format (.X) and skeletal animation.

Milkshape also exports to md2 which is supported by PR. BTW: md2 format appears to feature some data compression and in a few exporters (QTip for MAX, Q2 Modeler for skin linking) certain vertices can be distorted beyond the 0.01 (0.001?) unit resolution. This is why you''ll see ''swimming'' and jerking vertices on certain Q2 player models.
Yeah I noticed. I was more interested in the skeletal animation though. The Milkshape format stores bone data. At the moment only 3D studio character models can be used to import bone data. I was thinking milkshape might provide an alternative if chris finds it compatible.
Explicit milkshape (ms3d) support is probably a waste of time, once the .x format incorporates bone data (which it already does I believe, in DX 8) then it could be incorporated.
PR does not and will never support .X files. It needs to use PR''s file formats for geometry and animation, so an exporter from Milkshape would be best.

Well then, if PR will never support .X files, then that makes perfect sense. As to 3D Studio''s price, check out version 2.0 (or 2.5) as it should be less than $500; quite a fair price given its power. There isn''t much you can do in 3DS MAX 4.0 which can''t be done in 2.5 (game specific anyway).
A milkshape exporter (that exports bone data) would be great!!
