hi there a quick question. if you have a race track looked at from an aerial view on the screen (needs to be any kind of a map with any amount of wiggles and squiggles in the road), how can you tell who is in first place in a race? There are already markers on the track (4) which can tell where someone is at those points, but how do you keep a continual track of any racers position at any time without putting hundreds of markers all the way around the track? cheers in advance

Well, you should have positions already before writing them out. Since you know where to put them when you draw them on screen, you should know what position they have. To make that position relative to the goal shouldnt be to hard.

you could just put markers at the end of straightways, and a few around the curves, and put the cars in place order by which one they most recently passed... then if more than one car has passed marker n but not yet reached marker n+1, you can put them in order by finding out which is closer to marker n+1 using that distance formula thing that pops up on this message board in every third post. the only problem this may have is if the road has a hairpin turn followed by another hairpin turn, but that can be solved by careful marker placement...
