Header Files
Is there anywhere that I might find an index of the standard C++ header files and what functions they can be used for?
I''m experimenting with C++ at the moment, and a lot of the stuff I''m trying to do requires me to search around for an hour trying to find out which header file can let me do one specific operation.
Any feedback''d be great.
Blah, I says.
If you are using Borland C++ then the help files
are good, just type in the name of the header file and it will tell you all the functions therin. From there you can find out what each does.

Why don''t you search for the functions itself?

I''m using Dev-C++, and it doesn''t have much in the way of help in this area. I might have Borland around on my computer somewhere, so I''ll try it through that.

If you''re developing for Windows and/or using Win32, nothing on the web beats MSDN. It has all the Win32 headers, type defintions, comments, sample programs as well as STL, C and C++ documentation.
There''s also complete (well, fairly complete - Microsoft documentation always has quirks) documentation on VB, Visual InterDev, Visual J++, introductory documentation/papers on .NET, etc. It''s a real wealth of information.

Are you talking about C++ Standard Library header files? Here is the web site which I usually use as a C++ library reference:

I''ve been using that Dinkum page too, but I find it terse and difficult to read. Try this page instead: http://www.sgi.com/tech/stl/table_of_contents.html
