Lets say that I have a wall texture that I want to use with a wall model, how do I create a bump map texture for the wall to make it more realistic?

I only have the wall texture.

Usually the artists creates those from high poly models, but you can create it from diffuse texture although quality will be poorer. Try xNormal .

In general you need a height map to generate a normal map. Typically in games a height or normal map will be generated using high-resolution zBrush models with a tool like xNormal, as belfegor already mentioned. However there are some tools (such as CrazyBump) that will attempt to automatically convert a color map to a height map and then generate the normal map from that. In general this approach is limited in terms of the quality that it can produce since it's working with limited information, but it may be good enough for your purposes.
