Every book / tutorial I'm using describes how to use it (CreateRenderTargetView)

but none of them managed to explain exactly what it is....

Can anyone explain it better to me? Or Does anyone have a link where it is better explained?

I'm trying to learn to use DirectX so i would like to understand what's happening behind every single line of code... thanks..

It is a view over data in the D3D pipeline, a view basically specifies how the runtime and GPU driver should handle or use the resource that is embedded in it. For the same texture for example you can have a RenderTargetView and a ShaderResourceView at the same time in your application.

In the case of a RenderTargetView it means that the embedded resource can be used as a render target, so something you can render into.

Read this article it will tell you how D3D11 handles resources and why views exit seperately from the resource itself: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ff476900%28v=vs.85%29.aspx
