Hello, my name is Anton Drebot and I have a small indie team making a game for a while.
It’s a very simple game. Collecting stars, overcoming obstacles, hurrying up to the exit - everything is pretty usual, except one thing. There are two heroes and they are inseparably connected. Wherever the former goes, the latter copies everything like a reflection in a mirror. And this turns the game from an arcade into a puzzle.
Every level is a problem to solve. Heroes must arrive to their heart pieces simultaneously; the pieces are scattered on both sides of their bewitched world. The spell will be broken and the heroes will be together! But not for a long time - until the next level.
The idea of the mirror movement is not something new. Binary Land was established in far 1984 where two penguins ran in a labyrinth looking for love. One gameplay detail was etched in my memory for years. Characters had to meet each other accurately in the middle of the level. To complete the task you needed to displace heroes relative to each other with the help of the walls of the labyrinth. And that was a perfect idea for a puzzle.
However the game was focused on arcade elements of gameplay instead of a puzzle. Spiders wanted to eat you, the bird changed characters’ place out of season, time limit – all this required skills but not logic.
And I got an idea why not to make a game with mirror mechanics, where you need to solve exactly a puzzle to achieve the goal. No time limits or monsters threatening heroes. And of course to use all the benefits of the touch interface – no buttons painted all over the screen to control characters.
As a result project Heart2Heart appeared. Such name was inspired by the moment when heroes find their hearts simultaneously. The pieces reunite and so Heart-to-Heart appears.
That's how controls work. You touch the cell you need. The character goes to the cell if the movement is available (the cell colors with green). Mirror movement will be applied to the second character.
If it's not available - the cell colors with red and the characters stand still.
Characters will not move until you release the finger.
