NavMesh Geometry

Hey,

 

what geometric shapes should my navigation mesh consist of? I've seen NavMeshs with Triangles, Squares and Polygons. What are the advantages/disadvantages of the specific shapes?

Triangles are easiest to work with because you avoid some of the difficulties of dealing with other convex shapes and you can code the implementation with hard coded buffers of 3 vertices/indices or whatever for triangles.
