Hey,

I want to start with OpenGL - I have a small background with DirectX but I think it's negligible.

Is it good to start with http://www.opengl-tutorial.org/ using GLFW, GLM and GLEW or should I first start by doing it all by my self?

Are there any resources? I've just found the page above and the Super Bible which seems not to be that good any more.

Regards

I'd start with nehe opengl tutorials, worked great for me when I tried it out

The NeHe tutorials are based on OpenGL 1.x. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone unless they were specifically trying to learn how to use the old GL API for some reason. According to the Steam hardware survey, 96.24% of their users have at the very least a DirectX 10 compatible GPU, which means that learning with any version of OpenGL lower than 3.3 is probably going to be counter productive. Even OS X, Mesa3D and I think Intel have support for OpenGL 3.3 these days.

Be sure to check out the official spec documents and OpenGL registry.

Even OS X, ... have support for OpenGL 3.3 these days.

Well, more or less. According to Steam, looking at the OS versions, approx. 10% have Mac OS 10.6 and hence OpenGL 2.1 (slowly decreasing tendency), approx. 40% have mac OS 10.7 or 10.8 and hence OpenGL 3.2, and approx. 50% now have Mavericks and hence OpenGL 3.3 or above (3.3 or 4.1, to be precise).

Another warning about the NeHe tutorials.  As well as deprecated material, they will also teach you some really bad habits - the OpenGL wiki common mistakes page could have been written with the NeHe tutorials in mind.

I personally would recommend XoaX.net tutorials because it goes through the entire installation process as well as setting up a GL window on current systems. After that, I moved to OpenGL Programming Guide 7th Edition. From there, it depends on which route you want to take.
