AI in the military

Recommended Posts

Can anyone help me with information or resources for learning about ai in the military to quite an extensive and detailed level? I need to write a 3000 word essay on it in detail. I want to know things like, the background and history, problems and goof ups because of it, the names of the inventors, the weapons used today that use it and the effect of ai on their efficiency etc.. Thanks

I think you''ll find a lot of this information is classified. You might start off with a reference to ENIAC, although whether that comes under the field of AI is debatable. I would agree that, in this case, Google is your best friend.

Well, you''re asking for an awful lot of stuff, but I think it''s not likely that you''re going to find much out there on the Web. I work in both the military AI (we call them "battle managers") and the commercial game AI fields and it''s amazing sometimes how little documentation there can be in either. While there''s a lot of military stuff (SOAR, for one) there''s not much history of the thinking and such out there (or at least I haven''t seen any).

There are a lot of reasons for that, but they boil down to a.) classification (as another poster suggested) and b.) it''s more fun to write about what worked rather than all the thinking about what didn''t .

Best suggestion I can think of is what has already been suggested--search the web and read a book or two about it, and you''ll probably pull together what you''re looking for for your essay. Good luck!
