Personal Digital Assistant. A PDA is one of those handheld organizer-type thingies like the Palm m100 or the HP Journada or the Handspring Visor. They run embedded OSes such as Palm OS, Windows CE or embedded Linux. Currently, embedded Linux is seeing a major surge thanks to its stability and lack of licensing fees (which lowers TCP - Total Cost of Production - significantly, which makes the final product cheaper or have a larger margin of profit) while Windows CE is growing in popularity because of its continuing improvement (and the fact that it is Microsoft Windows™).

(P)ublic (D)isplay of (A)ffection... when you are at the mall trying to find stuff at radio shack, and you see some mallrat teenagers trying to suck each others tongues out because they are too young and poor to get a room.

Assembly, C, C++, VB, whatever. It depends what OS the device is running, and what development tools are available for it.
