Personal Digital Assistant. A PDA is one of those handheld organizer-type thingies like the Palm m100 or the HP Journada or the Handspring Visor. They run embedded OSes such as Palm OS, Windows CE or embedded Linux. Currently, embedded Linux is seeing a major surge thanks to its stability and lack of licensing fees (which lowers TCP - Total Cost of Production - significantly, which makes the final product cheaper or have a larger margin of profit) while Windows CE is growing in popularity because of its continuing improvement (and the fact that it is Microsoft Windows™).
Petroleum Diesel Accelerator?
Partly Digested Apples?
Pink Donkeys Angling?
Personal Digital Assistant?

The choice is yours.

What language are PDA progs programmed in?
Assembly, C, C++, VB, whatever. It depends what OS the device is running, and what development tools are available for it.
