Hello, thanks for looking at my post. I was wondering if anyone knew of any free or cheap ISO engines that would be good for a Diablo 1-2 type game. The reason I am asking is that me and some others are working on a Sci-Fi/Action/RPG, and we cant decide if we want to use another engine, or program our own. Using another one is better in our opinion, because its so much less work... Please reply!

make your own. no matter how wonderful someone else''s engine is, it will not fit your game perfectly, and you will end up compromising your wonderful ideas for the limitations of the engine.
besides, it isn''t all that hard, and there are plenty of people here who will help you through the tough parts.

Yeah! Make your own if you want to be a Game Developer.
Well, that really doesnt have much to do with it. I am talking about an engine, not a magical piece of softweare that will make the game for us...

Make your own; you won''t find any engine you like.

Wow, aren''t we all a lot of nay-sayers?

First off, game developers don''t necessarily have to be great programmers. Warren Specter designed Deus Ex, and used the Unreal game engine. Great game, used someone else''s engine to suit their purposes. ''Nuff said.

As for a free isometric engine, I would look into World Forge. http://www.worldforge.org/ - it''s probably the largest open source isometric game engine available, and has a huge following.

Good luck!
