MultiplyTransform Question

I was skimming through a NeXe tutorial just a few minutes ago and I saw the tutorial on transformations. THe autor used D3DXMutliplyMatrix and then set it to the respective transformation. Isn''t it possible to just use MultiplyTranform and not have to use GetTransform, D3DXMatrixMultiply, and then SetTransform? Just pondering that thought...
