Wolfenstein 3D Multiplayer? A thought...

John Carmack released the official source code for Wolfenstein 3D, as you can see in this video, and this is the source code. I was wandering what if someone had the insanity to read what these guys did back in those days. The C code is quite hard to read, and has some pretty low-level stuff. What do you think about it?

An OpenGL REAL 3D and Multiplayer version of the game would be really fantastic.

Is the data for the game released also/available for use ?

If it isnt, then for the project to work you will have to have tools pipeline to create new data formatted for the game.

Probably not. But they did with Quake 3, and it's quite decent (Made new content). The source code in C for Quake 3 is probably a much bigger nightmare, but, there are differences. In Open Arena, they probably just switched the content, without the necessity of exploring the source code too much. If one desired to turn Wolfenstein 3D in REAL 3D porting to OpenGL, would probably be a great community effort. (It's worth remembering that the low-level part would have to be explored as well, since the game was originally for MS-DOS).

people have ported it to newer OS versions, and there are OpenGL versions of Wolfenstein 3D floating around.

some may have also added multiplayer for all I know.

not really evaluated, but a search did turn this up:

otherwise, dunno...
